The Bimini Twist may be the the most mysterious knot in fly fishing.
I love the look you get when you tie one. It’s as though you pulled a rabbit out of your fishing hat. In reality, the Bimini Twist is not a difficult knot. Once you understand it it’s very easy to tie and it can not be beat for strength. It is the best method for attaching you backing to your fly line and a knot every angler should know how to tie. Here’s Capt. Joel Dickey to show you how easy it is.

Ok, but which line is “fly line” and which is a leader on this video ?
I don;t think either. It ties a loop in the backing or leader to form a loop to loop connection.
Ahhhhhhhh I just read the post and yes that was typed wrong Pawel…. It is backing to fly line ….. I guess I’m going to have to break out the caning post since Louis posted that wrong…
Joel
Thanks for catching that. Sorry for the confusion. I have made the correction.
Hey Pawel the Bimini twist should always be put in the backing… I just used fly line so you could see it better in the video.. I’m pretty sure I relayed that message in the video but I have yet to look at the edited footage… Hope that answers your question if not let us know…. Joel
Capt Joel-
Once you’ve got the bimini in, how do you attached the backing to the leader? nail knot, or something else?

Boat man Dan – I personally only trust a loop to loop connection… So therefore I whip a loop in the end of the fly line and attach it that way… However most fly lines come with a loop in them anymore.. I will be doing a video on the loop that I whip in the line in the future.. Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions..
