Catching a bonefish is always a challenge, but to catch a big bonefish, you have to do everything right.

Bonefishing is a little like playing the guitar. It doesn’t take long to be good enough to have a lot of fun but it takes a lifetime to master. I’ve been doing it for a long time and I still regularly have revelations about it. I suppose that’s why I love it so much.

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to catch a big bonefish. Most of it the hard way. I’m going to share some of that hard won knowledge with you in the hope it will shorten the learning curve.

Watch the video for my top 10 tip for catching big bonefish

  2. All great tips and accurate.

One other I have learned..when sharks are nearby you might need to “horse” the fish in faster to save its life. But if a shark is on, free spool the bonefish and give it a chance to get away.

  3. Thx for the tips on bone fishing. Hope you r doing ok with the eye problem. Is G&G doing a fly fishing trip this year? If so, would like info so I can come.

  4. Your top 10 tips for big bonefish were helpful. I’ve fished on Andros 3 times in the last 4 years. Someone suggested that many and big fish populate the Joulters and that sounds positive. Have you fished there and how do you view it? I looked at the web site of Joultersfishing.com and their gallery shows bones, tarpon and permit. What is the best way to locate reviews on lodges?
Sid Elliott told me about your web site and I’m very impressed by it.
