What do guys in Michigan do all winter?

Apparently they drink beer and tie flies. And with some of the talent they have on hand, who can blame them? The guys at Schultz Outfitters have started a fun tradition. They teach fly tying classes at a local bar. They bring in some awesome guest tyers from all over to share their kick ass patterns and luckily for us, they video the whole affair.

My good friend Bruce Chard even made an appearance to tie his Honey Badger Permit Crab pattern. It looks like a rockin good time. It almost makes me wish I was in Michigan all winter. Well, almost.

Check out the videos from Bar Flies

Come fish with us in the Bahamas!

  1. Great group of fun people at Schultz. I was up there fishing for carp and smallies a couple times last year and made sure to stop by both times. The shop is awesome with tons of great gear and tying materials. I bet they put on a good time with these tying classes. And who can resist a good beer while sitting in front of the vise? Cool tying videos!

  2. It might not be enough for you to live in Michigan over the winter, but for those of us that are stuck here, Bar Flies helps is a great way to beat the winter doldrums. It’s something to look forward to every Wednesday. I think I’ve tied enough flies this winter to last for several seasons.
